i&m @ model citizens nyc

we're heading back to new york next month to show at independent design exhibit model citizens nyc. the show is just around the corner from ICCF (happening at the same time) at the javits center. the exhibit is at exit art/exit underground, a non-profit cultural (arts) center. click here for a map

when i say 'we' - i mean that in the proverbial sense - and that i actually mean i will be going to ny. my dearly beloved b will be hanging back in seattle to do boooo-oooring things like finish his degree and other silly stuff like that.*

(*for you without a sense of humor, i am, of course, joking.)

urbancase icff 2009 preview

i had darin from urbancase on the horn today; we haven't seen each other since january (really, has time gone that quickly?!?) and he certainly has been a busy and productive bee...

next month at icff he'll be introducing his new line of contemporary furniture, lighting, and home accessories. and we all have the opportunity to get a sneak peak at cairo in seattle on April 28th from 7-9 pm.

This collection was inspired by ideas and images from Berlin, and here are some photos...

bahn credenza
"refers to the motion of a passing subway train while the softened corners were influenced by interior compartments on german rail cars"

melli compact lounge
"named for the bar at tempelhof airport, the melli compact lounge is slim, wall mounted and provides storage for your favorit elixir" - this is so clean and NECESSARY and bar tools are included. you can't ask for more...my birthday is sept 13th and i like bombay gin, pernod and maker's mark. thank you.

energie lamp
"inspired by high voltage warning signs - no worries though...it's UL certified"

camera candle
and this might be my favorite, and one that i WILL be buying at the show on tuesday. they will be on sale, so bring your dolla bills y'all.

more photos and info on the pieces can be found on urbancase's website.

"Already your favorite product...now in a half pound of packaging!"*

i think i need a wooden coke bottle in a glass jar, just sayin'...

these pieces are from mark rice who is an uber-talented fellow hailing (for now) from bloomington, indiana. we've crossed paths numerous times in the past years, but it's only been recently that we've actually exchanges words...(sometimes i am shy, i blame my mother...)

anyhow i really like his cheeky folk art. in addition to being an artist of the visual sort he's also a pretty talented drummer (for the likes of the coke dares and the impossible shapes)

i am trying to find a place in my apartment so that i can buy and hang this:
i mean, SERIOUSLY?!?! do you know my boyfriend? have you SEEN my boyfriend? the irony and coincidence is uncanny.

and here is another of my FAVORITES:

more of his work can be found on his blog. congrats to mark, he's heading to risd this fall for grad work. (i'm jealous!)

ps: susan boyle makes me want to keep living, not that i wanted to stop or anything...

our new slogan

i just instated the 'inspriation door' - a door to a closet in our studio is now the INSPIRATION DOOOO-OOO-OOO-OOORRRRRRR (echo echo echo)

and above our drawings and concept sketches is this:

additionally, i will have you know, i am going to probably eat an entire box of cheddar cheese squares from trader joe's...

i&m on apartment therapy

we had a nice little write up of our work on apartment therapy last week. they were specifically writing about our powder coating, which they compared to the 'bacon of design' in that when added to anything it makes it 100 million times better; which i thought was funny. i had to put a little of the SMACK DOWN on some douchebag commenter (sorry for the language, mom), but i feel pretty good about that. :) hehe

can i get cable for, like, a day?

i CANNOT wait to see this:

you really must watch the original first. but seriously, can i get cable on april 18th so i can watch? ...i'm calling comcast.

maybe if b watches grey gardens (i am not sure if he's seen the o.g.) i can convince him to be big edie (he wouldn't do it last year) and i can FINALLY be little edie for halloween. i mean, how easy and FUN (!!!) would it be to be her all night long? i envy drew barrymore for this, if nothing else. any excuse to wear a skirt upside down...

everything is amazing and nobody is happy

record posts today - (this is the my third post). i am doing our taxes *snore* so i am taking little blog breaks for about 5 mins every hour. i just watched this video. holy COW it's so hilarious.

Everything is Amazing and Nobody is Happy

i LOVE laughing out loud. alone. at home. i hope my neighbors think i am the crazy. oh ps i saw this on the house of milk.

earth hour is neat!!!

this is a MUST see. in honor of earth hour (saturday march 28 - 8:30pm local time) cities all over the world turned off lights to raise awareness about climate change. the link above shows images from all over the world of before and during earth hour. when you go to the site, start by clicking on image #2 to see 'before' and 'during.'

downtown los angeles before and during:

i'll admit it, going through these photos was really moving for me. i wouldn't consider myself a sap, i don't cry during movies or for every tampon and yogurt commercial, but this is so cool. i got the chills and almost a lump in my throat. i am very moved when i think about people all over the world doing something good at the same time - being a part of something bigger. i'll admit that i also get the chills (no lump in my throat, just the chills) when i hear the bbc radio jingle. it's so cool to me that SO many other people all over the world are listening to the same thing. it's the human experience thing that gets me.

i am back with skinny vinny envy

i FINALLY feel 100%! yay! being sick and working for yourself isn't necessarily the coolest thing ever. but i'll tell you what is...these bags from skinny vinny. skinny vinny is a brooklyn based studio "that creates functional products bringing forth a sense of urban sophistication with tailored craftsmanship." the bags are made of heavy duty canvas, which i love; and at $100 a pop, these are REALLY affordable. i think i need to get one...

foxglove is my favorite
