the cube chair

this is the cube chair. when brian and i first met, like i might not have even known his last name at the time, he banged two of these out in one evening. i just stood there for hours watching him in complete amazement. while we were working, our neighbor -a plasma cutter- was also working. over a period of about four hours, our space was slowly - and unbeknownst to us - filling up with a yellow death-like haze. i left the space to call my mom and when i got back i told b that we should probably get out of there. the next day i thought i was going to die of black lung. brian, of course, was not phased. such is our story.

hehe

the battery in brian's camera has been dead so i don't have any new photos. until i do (which will be very soon) i had to post this. i promise this won't turn into a mies blog. i swear - all the way up to god.

and the postcards are IN

yay! now it's time to paper the town with postcards! i can't believe that it's already time to really start promoting this event. time is FLYING by - but that's a good thing, right?

i feel SO fortunate to have met such talented and enthusiastic people. i am so thankful to each of you for being so supportive AND patient. we're going to rock the boat a little in seattle's design community!!

i'm sore...

we've been in the space a LOT this weekend. and we are making huge strides. i'll let the photos speak for themselves...

corian pendants development

brian is the awesome-est - his building skills are unparalleled. and he does it all by hand. oh - i am smitten. we've been working on these wrap corian shades and this weekend we stepped it up by adding 1/4" wide relief cuts. seriously, they look like butter, if i do say so myself.

building from 3d modeling programs, apparently, is the way to go.

like i said, by hand!

if you look really closely and you can see those AMAZING relief cuts.

yay! one step closer...

after getting sick of working on cad stuff last night, i started to play around with packaging for my rings. i was using a rubber stamp with black ink on these boxes, and it was cute...but this is definitely better! i made them by hand pretty late last night, so the execution isn't quite there, but oh they make me very happy!

now i'm off to the space for the day so that i might fill all these boxes with treasures.

obama!

*i still can't help yelling his name when i am excited - it's awesome.

mies has a new shirt...

AND a new hiding place. the other day i was toiling away in the living room at my computer, as i do. and mies was laying on the couch cat napping, as she does. i started to hear this very light whining - i looked back to check on her and she wasn't around. i checked the bedroom and all over - i went to the kitchen to shake her treat can - a sound that usually has her bolting over to me half in the sitting position (because she knows that she must sit for her treat). but alas, no mies. every few minutes i would hear her whining - and it seemed to be coming from the sofa. i looked under it and behind it - but no mies. i started to get a little freaked out and thought of how we used to trap my sister in the hide-a-bed sofa as a kid and i started to worry that she had been trapped for a while in the the depths of the cushions of our swanky ikea sofa (joke). but i looked under all the cushions and behind and under and still no mies. then i saw it, there was a hole under the couch where she had climbed up INTO the couch. jeeze. but she wasn't scared. i just think she wanted me to know where she was. or something. oh she is such a joy. i love her to pieces. and pieces and pieces.

hey hey up here. duuuuuuh.

an new take on my old favorite

i have had this amazing shower curtain from urban outfitters (yes, urban) since my sophomore year of college (1998). i keep buying the same clear curtain with pockets every time i move into a new apartment. so ten years i have filled it with art postcards from my travels and other random two dimensional things that make me happy. but now i have a weird shower and it's been leaking water into the pockets and ruining my very precious collection of paper goods that i have collected over the past 16 years. that's right, stuff in there i found in junior high. now i have been looking for my postcard images online, so that i might print a copy to place in the shower curtain. i was searching for "Gabrielle d'Estrees et une de ses sours" (the image below) when i came across this design blog (which happens to be in the russian) and i found this AMAZING contemporary take on this piece by sabine pigalle - a paris-based photographer. SO good.
